Honouring the past

Honouring the past

Positioned at the corner of Atwater Avenue and René-Lévesque Boulevard, a key location in downtown Montreal, the ESTWEST project finds itself in an area laden with history. The site was occupied by the Montreal Children’s Hospital for more than 50 years. Built in 1904 on Guy Street, the hospital was the first in the city to be entirely devoted to caring for sick children. The increase in services over the years forced the world-renowned hospital to expand and relocate to Tupper Street in 1956, between Atwater Avenue and René-Lévesque Boulevard. This is the current location of the ESTWEST project. In May 2015, the hospital moved to 1001 Décarie, at the McGill University Health Centre – Glen Site.

The neighbourhood already has a rich heritage, and ESTWEST beautifully revitalizes the site while respecting its history. In order to perpetuate the site’s memory for future generations, the first nurses’ residence, the oldest wing of the old hospital, will be restored and integrated into the project. A nice little nod to the past!

The two condominium towers offer breathtaking views of the surroundings and the remnants of the historic district, including the Cabot Square, (where music Wednesdays take place all summer), the mythical Montreal Forum (which has seen the Montreal Canadians win the Stanley Cup on many occasions), and the undeniable charm of the Westmount borough. This will surely dazzle residents!

ESTWEST is a project grounded in its environment that offers added value to the citizens of Montreal and commemorates the heritage significance of a site rich in history. It really is the best of both worlds!
