The Canadian Centre for Architecture: just steps away from the project!

Do you know of the Canadian Centre for Architecture? Founded in 1979 and located in Shaughnessy Village, the CCA is an international research institution and museum operating from the fundamental premise that architecture is a public concern. They produce temporary and permanent exhibitions and offer a wide range of activities for visitors. Explore the CCA.

A one-of-a-kind site!

The first thing that strikes visitors when they arrive at the CCA is the breathtaking site itself. The famous CCA building integrates and is built around Shaughnessy House, a historic monument constructed in 1874. And that doesn’t include the breathtaking exhibits and sculpture garden! Covering about 12,000 square feet over four floors, two of which are in the basement to protect the collections, the CCA building includes exhibition halls, the Paul Desmarais Theatre, the CCA Bookstore and the Alcan Scholar’s wing, as well as restoration laboratories, cutting-edge collection storage spaces and conservation offices. The building has won numerous design awards in North America and Europe.

Activities for all

The whole family will find something to pique their interest, whether it is activities for kids, educational workshops, presentations, multimedia shows or self-guided tours. There are also the beautiful outdoor garden, Baile Park and sculpture garden to discover. The CCA is easily accessible by metro or bus, meaning you can always pop in without having to plan your journey in advance. Admission is free for students and children!

Upcoming temporary exhibits:

Until October 7, 2018: Utopie Radicali: Florence 1966 – 1976

This exhibit brings together the work of various radical Italian groups and figures in architecture.

September 13, 2018 to February 13, 2019: Milton-Parc: How we did it

In 1968, a major real estate company announced its intention to completely demolish six square residential blocks of heritage buildings. A committee was subsequently founded to organize an opposition. Through a rich selection from the CCA archives, the exhibit retraces the dramatic struggle of this community to preserve its neighbourhood.

September 21, 2018 to January 20, 2019: Scripts for a new world: Film storyboards by Alessandro Poli

This exhibition explores how different elements of film were able to generate a new language for architecture in the work of Alessandro Poli, Italian architect, designer and artist.

November 6, 2018 to April 7, 2019: Architecture Itself and Other Postmodern Myths

The exhibition challenges the typical narrative of the heroic architect by revealing a counter-reading of postmodern procedures.
